New Sesquiterpenoids Isolated from Streptomyces argenteolus Show Potential Antimicrobial Properties
Researchers at Northeastern University in Shenyang, People's Republic of China, have isolated two new sesquiterpenoids, neopinguisane-2b,5b-diol (1) and isoseiricardine B (2), from the culture broth of Streptomyces argenteolus derived from Pantholops hodgsoni feces. The new compounds, along with two known compounds, pentalenic acid (3) and nakienone C (4), were analyzed using comprehensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data, which confirmed their structures. The research was financially supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Key Takeaways:
- Two new sesquiterpenoids, neopinguisane-2b,5b-diol (1) and isoseiricardine B (2), were isolated from Streptomyces argenteolus, a species of Gram-Positive Bacteria.
- The new compounds, along with two known compounds, pentalenic acid (3) and nakienone C (4), were analyzed using comprehensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data.
- The antimicrobial activities of all isolated compounds, including the new sesquiterpenoids, were evaluated as part of the research.
- The research concluded that the stereochemistry at C-10 of compound 2 could not be determined due to insufficient sample quantity.
- The study represents the first reported isolation of both pinguisane-type and seiricardine-type sesquiterpenoids from Streptomyces species.
