Advanced Fibre Communications and Aware Inc. Announce Licensing Agreement for DSL Lite Solution

Advanced Fibre Communications, a leading manufacturer of telecommunications systems, and Aware Inc., a worldwide leader in xDSL technology, have announced a licensing agreement to deliver a DSL Lite solution. This agreement will incorporate Aware's leading splitterless DSL Lite technology into AFC's DMT ADSL plug-in for its UMC 1000 3GDLC. The new DSL Lite accord coincides with the completion of interoperability testing for standard-compliant, full-rate ADSL between AFC's ADSL DMT line card and Aware's x200 modem/router, making AFC's 3GDLC the first product to be compatible with Aware's x200 modem/router.

The AFC/Aware solution will be jointly marketed to carriers and uses Analog Devices' AD20msp910 chipset, which is also used for full-rate ADSL implementations. DSL Lite is consistent with the goal of the Universal ADSL Work Group (UAWG) to propose a simplified version of ADSL that delivers high-speed modem communications over existing phone lines based on an open, interoperable International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Standard.
