Advances in Mechanical Engineering: Researchers Develop Epoxy Composite Materials with Palm Fibers and Areca Catechu
Researchers at Universitas Tanjungpura have made significant progress in the field of mechanical engineering by developing a new type of epoxy composite material using palm fibers and Areca catechu fibers. The composite material is created by combining natural fibers, such as palm branch fiber and Areca catechu trunk fiber, with epoxy as its matrix. The team conducted an experiment to evaluate the tensile strength of the composite material, focusing on different parameters such as NaOH treatment time, pinang:palm fiber composition, and fiber orientation.
The study found that the average tensile strength of the composite material is 3.07 MPa, with the highest value of 4.04 MPa achieved with a NaOH treatment time of 1 hour, a pinang:palm fiber composition of 30:70, and fiber orientation in the vertical direction. This research has the potential to contribute to the development of sustainable and eco-friendly materials in mechanical engineering and machinery.
