Biosynthesis and Antibacterial Effect of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Using Aloe Vera Latex Extract

Researchers from the University of Cadi Ayyad have successfully developed an environmentally friendly method for synthesizing zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles using Aloe vera latex extract. The approach involves using different temperatures, namely room temperature, 50 degrees C, and 100 degrees C, to produce ZnO nanoparticles with varying sizes. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using various spectroscopic techniques and showed promising antibacterial activity against four bacteria species. Notably, the nanoparticles synthesized at 50 degrees C demonstrated the highest activity against E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, and E. faecalis with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of 0.16, 0.63, 0.08, and 0.08 mg/mL, respectively.
