Cannabinoids Reduce cAMP Levels in Rats Through In Vivo Microdialysis
Cannabinoid receptor subtype 1 (CB1R) plays a crucial role in the regulation of adenylyl cyclase-catalyzed cAMP production. Researchers at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis have used microdialysis to monitor the effects of cannabinoids on cAMP activity in rats. The study revealed that striatal infusion of the CB1R agonist WIN55,212-2 dose-dependently decreased basal and forskolin-stimulated extracellular cAMP, which was reversed by co-infusion of the CB1R antagonist SR141716A.
