Chongqing Enters Summer Forest Fire Prevention Period with Intensified Aerial Patrols and Simulated Training Exercises

As the People's Republic of China's Chongqing Province enters its summer forest fire prevention period, the Municipal Aviation Emergency Rescue Corps has increased the frequency of helicopter patrols in the central urban area. On July 15, the Corps held a simulation training exercise at the Longxing General Airport in Liangjiang New District, where three helicopters took off to patrol areas around Mingyue Mountain and Tongluo Mountain.

Chongqing has entered the summer forest fire prevention period, with the recent sunny and hot weather increasing the risk of forest fires. The Municipal Aviation Emergency Rescue Corps has three bases, including one at Longxing, Wanzhou, and Qianjiang, with deployed helicopters, drones, and personnel to ensure one-hour aviation emergency rescue within the city. The aerial patrols of the three bases can basically cover the entire Chongqing.

During a simulated training exercise, Captain Tang Haoling and his team detected a smoke point on Xiajiagou in Longxing Town, Yubei District. The helicopter arrived above a nearby water collection point, where Huang Renjiong pumped water from the helicopter bucket into the water hose. The water hose poured down in a hundred-meter-long spray, effectively extinguishing the simulated forest fire. The entire process took no more than 10 minutes.

The Municipal Aviation Emergency Rescue Corps is also utilizing drones for forest patrol and reconnaissance. At Niejiagou, Jiachen Road, Beibei District, the team members were operating drones to conduct forest patrol and reconnaissance. Dong Cunjun, a team member, introduced that the drones can provide real-time images that can be magnified 30 times, allowing for detection of any smoke or fire spots.
