Comparative Analysis of Bacterial DNA Extraction Methods from Goat Milk and Its Products
Researchers at the All-Russian Dairy Research Institute have conducted a comparative analysis of bacterial DNA extraction methods from goat milk and its products. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of different DNA extraction methods for detecting microorganisms in various food matrices. The research involved testing five commercially available kits on samples of raw, pasteurized, and powdered goat milk, as well as goat milk yogurt and cheese.
The study found that all kits were able to isolate bacterial DNA from most samples, but one kit failed to amplify DNA from powdered goat milk. The method that combined phenol-chloroform extraction and silica sorbent proved to be the most productive and universal method for extracting DNA from goat milk and its products. However, other protocols can be calibrated for specific conditions.
