New research on the Coronavirus - COVID-19 has shed light on the potential role of mannose-binding lectin (MBL) gene polymorphisms in determining the clinical severity of COVID-19 in children. According to the study, published in Molecular Biology Reports, the MBL2 gene polymorphisms, particularly in the exon-1 region, were associated with the symptomatic course of COVID-19 in pediatric patients. The research suggested that codon 54 polymorphism in the MBL2 gene exon-1 region can be linked to the symptomatic course of COVID-19.
