Distinct Biological Patterns in Major Depressive Disorder Identified
Major depressive disorder (MDD) with suspected non-Alzheimer's disease pathophysiology (SNAP) and MDD without SNAP exhibit distinct biological patterns, according to a new study. Researchers conducted cross-sectional analyses of 136 MDD patients, classified into SNAP and non-SNAP groups, and found significant associations among cerebral amyloid-b deposition, glucose metabolism, and hippocampal volume in both groups. However, the biological profiles differed between the two groups, with greater amyloid deposition associated with reduced glucose metabolism and smaller hippocampal volume in non-SNAP MDD, and lower amyloid deposition associated with lower glucose metabolism in SNAP MDD.
