Education Process Mining: Literature Classification, Gaps, and Emerging Opportunities
A new report on education has shed light on the current state of education process mining (EPM). Despite its promising applications, the EPM literature landscape is unclear, making it difficult for researchers to guide future efforts. In an effort to address this issue, a systematic literature review was conducted, analyzing 44 articles to identify gaps and provide insights on how to fulfill them.
Key Takeaways:
- A total of 4,312 articles were identified, but after removing duplicates and applying exclusion criteria, only 30 remained.
- The research identified 28 articles that composed the final portfolio, which were then analyzed to provide insights on the main gaps in EPM.
- The study concluded that the findings can be used as a starting point for initiatives that aim to demarcate new frontiers of EPM.
- The research was conducted by Rosaine F. Semler and co-authors from Federal University of Technology in Curitiba, Brazil.
- The study highlighted the importance of classifying and analyzing EPM literature to provide a clear direction for future research.
- The researchers used a systematic literature review method, which included snowballing and peer review, to ensure the quality of the selected articles.
- Despite the significant number of articles analyzed, the study found that there are still many gaps in the EPM literature, which need to be addressed in future research.
Statistics:
- 4,312 articles were identified in the initial search.
- After removing duplicates and applying exclusion criteria, 30 articles remained.
- 28 articles composed the final portfolio after closer and individual inspection.
- 14 articles were added to the portfolio through snowballing.
- The study analyzed a total of 44 articles.
- The research was conducted by 5 authors from Federal University of Technology in Curitiba, Brazil.
