Genome-Wide Identification and Evolutionary Analysis of SnRK2 Gene Family in Nicotiana Species
Current study results on agriculture have been published by researchers from Yangzhou University in Yangzhou, People's Republic of China. The research, funded by the Jiangsu Students' Platform For Innovation And Entrepreneurship Training Program, investigated the role of SnRK2 genes in salt stress response regulation of tobacco. The study identified 54 SnRK2 genes across four Nicotiana species, including Nicotiana tabacum, Nicotiana benthamiana, Nicotiana sylvestris, and Nicotiana tomentosiformis. Phylogenetic reconstruction revealed lineage-specific expansion in diploid progenitors and polyploidy-driven gene loss in N. tabacum.
Key Takeaways:
- The study identified 54 SnRK2 genes across four Nicotiana species, which are involved in plant stress responses, including salt stress.
- The SnRK2 genes were clustered into five divergent groups, revealing lineage-specific expansion in diploid progenitors and polyploidy-driven gene loss in N. tabacum.
- Phylogenetic reconstruction and in silico promoter analysis uncovered regulatory networks involving light, hormones, stress, and developmental signals.
- The study demonstrated that ABREs support conserved stress-adaptive roles, indicating a role in stress response regulation.
- The research concluded that this study provides a genomic atlas of SnRK2 evolution in Nicotiana, offering a foundation for engineering salt-tolerant crops.
Statistics:
- 54 SnRK2 genes were identified across four Nicotiana species.
- The SnRK2 genes were clustered into five divergent groups.
- The study demonstrated that 64.7% of the SnRK2 genes contained ABA-responsive elements (ABREs).
- The study highlighted functional diversification through variations in intron-exon architecture and conserved kinase motifs.
