German Translation of Revised Comprehensive Autistic Trait Inventory Validates Autistic Traits Across Genders

Researchers collaborating with members of the autism community have developed a German translation of the Revised Comprehensive Autistic Trait Inventory (CATI-R), ensuring inclusive, respectful, and accessible language and concepts across all genders. To validate the German CATI-R, a large sample of 1057 German native speakers, including individuals with a self-reported autism diagnosis, those who self-identified as autistic, and non-autistic participants, were analyzed. The results showed that the six-subscale structure of the CATI-R was successfully replicated in the German translation.

Key Takeaways:

  • The German translation of the CATI-R was developed in collaboration with members of the autism community to ensure inclusive, respectful, and accessible language and concepts.
  • The CATI-R has six subscales that capture traits particularly relevant to autistic women and has been previously validated in English.
  • The German translation of the CATI-R was validated in a large sample of 1057 German native speakers, comprising 29 individuals with a self-reported autism diagnosis, 84 individuals who self-identified as autistic, and 944 non-autistic participants.
  • A confirmatory factor analysis supported the six-subscale structure of the CATI-R in the German translation, indicating that it measures autistic traits fairly across genders.
  • The German CATI-R showed good fit indices, with a Chi-squared value of 2402.85 and a p-value of 0.37, indicating that the model provided a good fit to the data.
  • The study highlights the importance of developing measures of autistic traits together with people from the autism community to ensure inclusivity and accessibility.

Statistics:

  • The sample size for the study was 1057 participants.
  • The sample comprised 29 individuals with a self-reported autism diagnosis, 84 individuals who self-identified as autistic, and 944 non-autistic participants.
