Identification and Validation of Feature Genes of Acute Myocardial Infarction Based on Ferroptosis-Related Genes
Researchers at the 904th Hospital of Joint Logistic Support Force of PLA in Jiangsu, People's Republic of China, have made a significant breakthrough in the study of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). By leveraging the concept of ferroptosis, a type of cell death characterized by iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation, the team was able to identify a set of characteristic genes that are strongly associated with AMI. These genes, known as ferroptosis-related differentially expressed genes (FDEGs), were found to have excellent diagnostic ability for AMI.
Key Takeaways:
- The researchers used gene expression data sets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to identify FDEGs in AMI patients and a control group.
- The most characteristic FDEGs identified were CYB5R1, TSC1, LAMP2, PARK7, and MGST1.
- A diagnostic model composed of these genes has excellent diagnostic ability for AMI.
- The researchers used machine learning algorithms, including least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and support vector machine-recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE), to construct the prognostication model.
- The model was validated using ROC curves and a validation set consisting of gene expression data sets GSE48060 and GSE59867.
Statistics:
- 5 genes (CYB5R1, TSC1, LAMP2, PARK7, and MGST1) were identified as the most characteristic FDEGs.
- The diagnostic model composed of these genes has a high accuracy for AMI diagnosis.
- The study used gene expression data sets from 2 databases (GEO and GSE) to identify FDEGs.
- The model was validated using two separate datasets (GSE48060 and GSE59867).
