Knowledge Gaps and Attitudes toward Fatty Liver Disease in Patients with Hepatitis B Combined with Metabolic-Associated Fatty Liver Disease

Patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (CHB) combined with metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) have poor knowledge and moderately positive attitudes towards fatty liver disease, a cross-sectional study conducted in the Chongqing region has found. The study, which involved 477 participants, aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of patients with CHB combined with MAFLD toward fatty liver disease. The results showed that knowledge score, attitude score, and body mass index (BMI) were independently associated with the practice scores, indicating a need for targeted interventions to close key knowledge gaps and strengthen attitudes towards sustainable health behaviors.

Key Takeaways:

  • The study involved 477 participants with CHB combined with MAFLD from multiple centers in the Chongqing region, China.
  • The average knowledge, attitude, and practice scores were 8.24 ± 5.05, 34.87 ± 2.93, and 32.02 ± 4.67, respectively, indicating poor knowledge and relatively proactive practices.
  • Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that knowledge score (OR = 1.10, 95% CI: 1.05-1.16), attitude score (OR = 1.27, 95% CI:1.16-1.39), and certain health conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension) were independently associated with the practice scores.
  • The study concluded that targeted interventions could help close key knowledge gaps, strengthen attitudes, and reinforce sustainable health behaviors in patients with CHB combined with MAFLD.
  • The research was conducted between October and November 2024 and was registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (TRN: ChiCTR2400095024, registration date: 31 December.)

Statistics:

  • 477 participants were included in the study from multiple centers in the Chongqing region, China.
  • The average knowledge score was 8.24 ± 5.05 (possible range: 0-18).
  • The average attitude score was 34.87 ± 2.93 (possible range: 9-45).
  • The average practice score was 32.02 ± 4.67 (possible range: 8-40).
