Nanoparticles Show Promise in Removing Heavy Metals from Drinking Water
Researchers at Tunis El Manar University in Tunisia have made a breakthrough in the field of water purification technology, developing a biocompatible polymer that can effectively remove heavy metals from drinking water. The study, led by Noureddine Mahdhi, focused on using a Polyaniline (PANI) polymer filled with TiO2 and ZnO nanoparticles to adsorb cadmium iodide from water. The researchers found that the surface energy and work of adhesion between water and the PANI/NPs increased with the addition of nanoparticles, leading to enhanced adsorption of cadmium iodide.
