Novel Converter Configuration for Electric Vehicle-to-Load Applications

Research conducted at Seoul National University of Science and Technology has presented a novel converter configuration for Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) applications in electric vehicles (EVs). The proposed configuration consists of two conversion stages, DC/DC and DC/AC, with a focus on optimizing the transformer turn ratio to improve the efficiency of the DC/DC converter stage. This innovative approach has been shown to reduce the volume by 15.5% and cost by $146, while improving efficiency by 0.8% compared to conventional two-stage converters.

Key Takeaways:

  • The proposed converter configuration combines a two-phase interleaved Boost converter and a full-bridge LLC circuit, eliminating 4 switches and reducing volume and cost.
  • Simulation results from Plecs software validated the design process, with input range of 260 - 460 V, output voltage of 400 V, fixed operated switching frequency of 100 kHz, and 2.4 kW.
  • The research concluded with a comparison of efficiency with conventional two-stage converters.
  • Key system characteristics were presented, followed by the optimal design process for the turn ratio of the transformer in the converter.
  • Main parameters of the converter were identified, including switching frequency, input, and output voltages.
