CaMKII Targets Specific SAP97 Splice Variant to Regulate AMPAR Activity

Researchers have discovered a new mechanism by which Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) regulates the activity of alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid-type glutamate receptors (AMPARs). CaMKII promotes the trafficking and activation of the GluR1 subunit of AMPARs during synaptic plasticity, and it achieves this by targeting a specific SAP97 splice variant.

Novel Anticancer Agent Displays Proliferation Inhibition and Apoptosis Activation in Human Prostate Cancer Cells

A new study has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against prostate cancer, as researchers from Shandong University in Jinan, People's Republic of China, have found that retigeric acid B, a naturally occurring compound, displays remarkable antitumor properties. The study, published in Chemico-biological Interactions, reveals that retigeric

RNA-Directed DNA Methylation Systems in Plants and Animals Reveal Ancestral and Convergent Features

Scientists in the United States have identified a clade of catalytically mutated DRM2 paralogs in flowering plant genomes, which they term DOMAINS REARRANGED METHYLTRANSFERASE3 (DRM3). Despite being catalytically mutated, DRM3 is required for normal maintenance of non-CG DNA methylation, establishment of RNA-directed DNA methylation triggered by repeat sequences, and accumulation
