Persistent Pain Predicts Incident Limitation in Older Adults
Recent research from Sichuan University, published in The journal of nutrition, health & aging, has identified a strong association between persistent pain and the risk of incident limitation in activities of daily living (ADL) among older adults. Using a prospective cohort study, the researchers analyzed data from 887 older adults (all aged 60 years) and found that four distinct pain trajectories were present: 'Persistently Pain-Free', 'Pain Remission', 'Developing Mild Pain', and 'Persistent Mild-to-Moderate Pain'. The study revealed that participants in the 'Persistent Mild-to-Moderate Pain' group had a significantly higher risk of developing ADL limitation compared to those in the 'Persistently Pain-Free' group.
