Prostatic Inflammation Score Predicts Biochemical Recurrence after Radical Prostatectomy

A study published in the World Journal of Urology has found that the prostatic inflammation score (PIS) can predict the risk of biochemical recurrence (BCR) after radical prostatectomy (RP). The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Foggia in Italy, evaluated the relationship between PIS and BCR in 679 patients who underwent RP between 2013 and 2023.

The PIS was assessed by integrating the Irani Grade (G) and Aggressiveness (A) on hematoxylin and eosin-stained biopsy cores. The patients were categorized into three groups based on PIS: PIS 1 (G 0-1/A 0-1), PIS 2 (G 2-3/A 0-1), and PIS 3 (G 0-3/A 2-3).
