Interprofessional Education Simulation-based Dementia Management Program Boosts Community-Dementia Care Competencies

Nursing and medical students in South Korea have been found to significantly improve their readiness for interprofessional education, self-efficacy, teamwork attitude, and problem-solving process after participating in an Interprofessional Education Simulation-based Dementia Management (IPE-SDM) program. The 190-minute program, which consisted of three sessions using standardized patients, was implemented for a group of 20 nursing and medical students. Compared to a control group of 19 students, the experimental group demonstrated statistically significant improvements in the aforementioned areas. The study's findings suggest that the IPE-SDM program holds potential for integration into formal interdisciplinary healthcare education curricula, contributing to the development of healthcare professionals equipped with the essential inter-professional skills required for community-based dementia care.
