COVID-19 Restrictions Linked to Delayed Immunity in Young Children
A new study from Imperial College London has revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic may have led to a significant delay in the acquisition of immunity to common respiratory pathogens, including Streptococcus pyogenes, in young children. The research, published in JAMA Network Open, found that the introduction of nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) during the pandemic was associated with a decrease in the detection of several respiratory pathogens, including S pyogenes, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and influenza viruses.
