UPEI Researchers Collaborate on Novel ALS Therapy

A team of researchers from the University of Prince Edward Island is working with partners at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre and Neurodyn Life Sciences Inc. to develop a novel therapy to slow or potentially halt the progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Led by Dr. Andrew Bateman, the project aims to explore the neuroprotective properties of granulins to counteract the toxic effects of the TDP-43 protein involved in disease progression. The project has received $881,122 in funding from the Quebec Consortium for Drug Discovery (CQDM) and Brain Canada.
