Doxorubicin-Loaded Nanoparticles Show Promise for Breast Cancer Treatment

Researchers at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences have developed a new approach to breast cancer treatment using doxorubicin-loaded salicylic acid cross-linked chitosan nanoparticles. These nanoparticles, known as Dox-SA-CH-NPs, were designed to minimize systemic toxicity and improve therapeutic efficacy. The study found that Dox-SA-CH-NPs exhibited a mean particle size of 110.9 ± 0.2 nm, a zeta potential of 33.25 ± 0.2 mV, and an encapsulation efficiency of 93.4 ± 0.01 %. The drug release from Dox-SA-CH-NPs was sustained over 72 hours, with 48.05 ± 2.3 % of the drug released.
