Emotional Intelligence Crucial for Academic Success of Students with Disabilities
Research conducted at King Faisal University in Saudi Arabia found that emotional intelligence (EI) has a significant impact on the quality of life (QoL) and academic performance of university students with disabilities. The study, which analyzed the EI of 328 students with various disabilities, demonstrated that higher levels of EI are related to improved QoL, which in turn positively affects academic performance. The results suggest that EI contributes to academic success both directly and indirectly by fostering students' overall QoL.
Key Takeaways:
- Emotional intelligence is crucial for academic success among university students with disabilities, with higher levels of EI linked to improved quality of life and academic performance.
- The study employed a quantitative, cross-sectional research design, including a sample of 328 university students with several types of disabilities.
- Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the obtained data and test the hypothesized relationships between EI, QoL, and academic performance.
- The results confirmed that QoL demonstrates partial mediating effects in the relationship between EI and academic achievements.
- The study provides practical implications for interventions aimed at supporting university students with disabilities.
- The research highlights the importance of emotional competencies in academic success and provides insights for promoting the well-being of this vulnerable population.
Statistics:
- 328 university students with various disabilities were included in the study.
- The research employed Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze the data.
- The results demonstrated that higher levels of EI are significantly related to improved QoL (r = 0.75, p < 0.001).
- The study found that EI contributes to academic success both directly and indirectly by fostering students' overall QoL.
