Enhancing Teacher Professional Development through Critical Incidents
Researchers from Universitas Sanata Dharma conducted a study to examine the impact of critical incidents on in-service teachers' professional development. The study aimed to investigate how teachers experienced critical incidents in the classroom and how these moments affected their fundamental values, beliefs, and teaching methods. The researchers used teacher reflections and in-depth interviews with three Junior High school teachers in Temanggung, Indonesia. The findings revealed that students' attitudes and teachers' mental health were associated with a higher frequency of critical incidents. Moreover, the researchers discovered that critical incidents were more effective for teachers' growth than participating in teacher development training.
