Epigenetic Changes in EBV-Associated Gastric Carcinoma
Researchers from Sun Yat Sen University have conducted a study to evaluate the significance of epigenetic changes in Epstein-Barr virus-associated gastric carcinoma (EBVaGC). The study analyzed 49 EBVaGC tissue samples and 45 EBV-negative gastric carcinoma (EBVnGC) tissue samples, as well as cell lines, to determine the promoter methylation status and protein expression of five specific genes: p16, FHIT, CRBP1, WWOX, and DLC-1. The results showed that global genomic DNA hypomethylation was more pronounced in EBVnGC than in EBVaGC, and promoter methylation of the five genes was more frequent in EBVaGC than in EBVnGC.
