Heavy Metal Pollution in Xinjiang Mining Areas: Study Reveals Extensive Ecological and Human Health Risks
New research from Nanjing Normal University has shed light on the severe pollution of heavy metals in the Zhundong mining area in Xinjiang, China. The study analyzed the pollution characteristics and sources of heavy metal elements using the linear regression model and evaluated the health risks using the Monte Carlo simulation approach. The results indicate that 89.28% of mercury was from coal combustion, 40.28% of lead was from transportation, and 19.54% of arsenic was from atmospheric dust. The research also found that the main source of copper and chromium was coal dust, with mercury having the greatest impact on potential ecological risks.
