IBM Unveils AS/400e Servers with Silicon-On-Insulator Technology

IBM has begun shipping its new line of AS/400e servers, powered by silicon-on-insulator (SOI) transistors and copper wiring. The new servers are designed to increase productivity and performance for mid-market customers, and over 200 customers have already begun using them to take advantage of e-business and business-to-business solutions.

The AS/400e Model 840 is a 24-way server that is 3.6 times faster than its predecessor, and has demonstrated leadership in four key benchmarks: TPC-C, NotesBench, SPECjbb2000, and VolanoMark. The server has set records in several areas, including a new world record for Lotus Domino scalability and performance.

IBM's AS/400e servers also allow customers to run complex core business applications, as well as applications associated with front-end Internet-based solutions, such as supply chain management, customer relationship management, server-side Java, and business intelligence.
