Improved Outcomes with Matched Unrelated Donor Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation
Investigators at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center have published a report comparing the outcomes of matched unrelated donor (MUD) and haploidentical donor hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) using post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy) as graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis. The study, which included 5,873 adult patients who received MUD (n=1,973) or haploidentical (n=3,900) HCT with PTCy for acute leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome between 2017 and 2021, found that MUD HCT was associated with improved overall survival (OS) and GVHD-free, relapse-free survival (GRFS) compared to haplo HCT.
