Improved Survival and Quality of Life for Endometrial Cancer Patients with Dostarlimab Treatment
A study published online in the International Journal of Gynecological Cancer has shown that dostarlimab plus carboplatin-paclitaxel treatment is associated with improved survival and maintenance of quality of life for patients with advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer. The research, led by Dana M. Chase, M.D., from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, involved 487 patients who were randomly assigned to receive either dostarlimab or a placebo in combination with chemotherapy. The study found that the mean duration of quality-adjusted time without symptoms of disease progression or toxicity of treatment was significantly longer in the dostarlimab arm than the placebo arm in the overall population (24.75 versus 20.34 months). The benefits of dostarlimab treatment were observed regardless of mismatch repair/microsatellite instability status or toxicity criteria used, and were mainly driven by time without symptoms of disease.
Key Takeaways:
- The study involved 241 and 246 patients in the dostarlimab and placebo arms, respectively, who were analyzed for safety.
- The mean duration of quality-adjusted time without symptoms of disease progression or toxicity of treatment was significantly longer in the dostarlimab arm than the placebo arm (24.75 versus 20.34 months).
- Benefits in quality-adjusted time without symptoms of disease progression or toxicity of treatment were observed after dostarlimab treatment, regardless of mismatch repair/microsatellite instability status or toxicity criteria used.
- The benefits of dostarlimab treatment were mainly driven by time without symptoms of disease.
- The study demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in both overall survival and quality-adjusted survival with an immunotherapy-chemotherapy combination in the disease setting.
- Several authors disclosed ties to pharmaceutical companies, including GlaxoSmithKline, which manufactures dostarlimab and funded the study.
- The study was published online in the International Journal of Gynecological Cancer on May 21, 2025.
Statistics:
