Live Biologics Offer New Hope for Cancer Patients
Live biologics, a novel class of cancer therapies derived from viruses, may offer a new hope for patients with hard-to-treat cancers. Calgary-based Oncolytics Biotech Inc. has developed a live cancer biologic called REOLYSIN[R], which targets cancer cells with an activated Ras pathway, a characteristic found in approximately two-thirds of all cancers. A Phase II study using REOLYSIN[R] in patients with sarcomas metastatic to the lung reported stable disease in 19 of 44 patients, with a total clinical benefit rate of 43%.
