Prevalence of Wheat Viruses in Azerbaijan Uncovered in New Research

A new study by researchers at Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University has shed light on the widespread occurrence of wheat viruses in Azerbaijan's wheat fields. According to the research, cereal viruses such as Wheat streak mosaic virus (WSMV), Barley/Cereal yellow dwarf viruses (B/CYDV), and Wheat dwarf virus (WDV) are common in the region, often occurring alongside other wheat pathogens. To better understand the situation, the researchers collected 157 wheat samples showing virus-like symptoms during the 2022-2024 growing seasons and analyzed them using ELISA and RT-PCR.
