Riverstone Networks and ONI Systems Demonstrate Interoperability at NFOEC

Riverstone Networks and ONI Systems have announced their participation in the "Operation: Interoptical" program at the National Fiber Optics Engineers Conference (NFOEC) in Denver, Colorado. At the show, Riverstone will be demonstrating how its RS family of switches and routers can provision packet-based services over the massive bandwidth delivered by ONI's optical switching products.

The interoperability between Riverstone's RS family and ONI's ONLINE platform is a key aspect of the demonstration. According to Romulus Pereira, President and CEO of Riverstone Networks, "Riverstone Networks RS family of routers and switches are designed specifically to take the massive bandwidth provided by next-generation optical switches such as ONI's ONLINE Platform and convert it into profitable services for metro providers."

Riverstone's RS family of switches and routers support SONET, ATM, and WDM as well as T1/E1, T3/E3, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, and 10/100 Ethernet interfaces. This makes Riverstone the only vendor that delivers rich service capabilities over both optical and legacy TDM infrastructure.

According to the Dell'Oro Group, Riverstone Networks commands an impressive 94% of the Layer-3 WAN market, which is a bellwether indicator for the metropolitan area network success.
