Salaspils Municipality to Implement 50% Co-financing for Student Meals

The Salaspils Municipality Council has made a decision to provide 50% municipal co-financing for student meals in grades 5-12, effective November 1, 2025. This change aims to address the issue of municipal overpayment for catering services and food waste. The decision was made after analyzing data on student attendance and the number of portions paid for each day to the catering company. It was found that the municipality provisionally overpays approximately 65,000 euros during the school year for portions not refused by parents. Additionally, portions not refused by parents in E-class create a large amount of food waste, which is also paid for from the municipal budget.
