Sedimentation and Erosion in Iranian Forests
Researchers in Iran have developed a new model to estimate the average annual sedimentation caused by forest road networks in oak forests in the west of the country. According to a study published in the lwm ab w khak journal, the Road Sediment Delivery Model (SEDMODL) and Geographic Information System (GIS) were used to estimate sedimentation rates. The study found that the average soil erosion at different distances from a specific road was 5.7 mm per year, and the estimated erosion and sedimentation rate of the entire study road network was 2875 and 570 tons per year per kilometer, respectively.
