Strong Influence of Basic Literacy on Reading Ability in Indonesian Fourth-Grade Students
A recent study conducted at Universitas Katolik Santo Thomas in Medan, Indonesia, aimed to determine the effect of basic literacy on the reading ability of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 065011, Medan Selayang District. The research, published in Jurnal PAJAR (Pendidikan dan Pengajaran), found a significant positive influence of basic literacy on the reading ability of the students. The study involved 77 students, with a sample of 28 selected using a purposive sampling technique. The results showed that the students' reading ability was in the very good category, with an average score of 82.46. The correlation test revealed a strong influence between basic literacy and reading ability.
