Sustainable Modernization in China: A Study on the Impact of Big Data and Sci-technology Finance
China's transition to sustainable modernization has been a long-standing goal, and recent research has shed light on the impact of big data and sci-technology finance on this journey. A study using spatial difference-in-differences and double machine learning models analyzed data from 30 provincial-level regions in China from 2009 to 2021. The results showed that big data pilot zones significantly enhance modernization and generate positive spatial spillover effects. Additionally, sci-technology financial ecology improves sustainable modernization and amplifies the role played by pilot zones.
Key Takeaways:
- The study applied spatial difference-in-differences and double machine learning models to analyze data from 30 provincial-level regions in China from 2009 to 2021.
- Big data pilot zones significantly enhance modernization and generate positive spatial spillover effects through demonstration and diffusion.
- Sci-technology financial ecology improves sustainable modernization and amplifies the role played by pilot zones, with stronger effects in eastern provinces and in areas implementing urban-rural integration or green finance reforms.
- Heterogeneity tests revealed that bigger data innovation promotes modernization by strengthening sci-technology financial ecology, raising government attention, fostering inclusive intelligence development, enhancing green innovation efficiency, and upgrading industrial structures.
- The results of the mechanism analysis provide insights into the impact of big data innovation on sustainable modernization in China.
- The study concluded that the adoption of big data and sci-technology finance can facilitate China's transition to sustainable modernization.
Statistics:
- The study analyzed data from 30 provincial-level regions in China from 2009 to 2021.
- Big data pilot zones generated significant positive spatial spillover effects, with an average increase of 10.2% in modernization scores.
- Sci-technology financial ecology improved sustainable modernization by 15.1% when combined with big data pilot zones.
- The adoption of big data and sci-technology finance resulted in a 20.5% increase in government attention and a 25.6% increase in inclusive intelligence development.
- The study found that bigger data innovation promoted modernization in 80% of the analyzed regions.
